Thanks to this tour, I'm better able to shoot in low light The three-hour night photography walking tour I took with Miguel and another photographer helped improve my photography.

We meandered through various neighborhoods in and around Lisbon’s central district and up and down its hilly terrain.

We snapped photos of everything from wonderful cityscapes below, to people dining on the streets and squares, to dark alleys with graffiti murals. I got to see pockets of the city I don’t think I would have on my own.

If I had a question, Miguel had an answer. He helped me learn how to better navigate and use my new Sony a74. Even though I’m an experienced photographer, my weakness has always been shooting in low light. Miguel suggested I switch from shooting strictly in manual mode to shutter priority.
At one point, we stood for a time taking photos of street trolleys passing by so I could work on improving my ability to capture motion blur. During the rest of my trip through Portugal, I shot in shutter priority and my night photos looked much improved.

If I can take just one helpful tip away from tours like this, it’s worth it to me. Thanks to Miguel, I’m more equipped to take better low-light shots.

Personal Tutorial with a Professional My tour group of 3 was small enough to feel like a private photography session. Miguel selected a route that included important sites as well as out of the way areas, all designed to provide interesting & compelling photographs. Although he is clearly very skilled as a professional, he was generous with advice for an amateur, & made sure we came away with a selection of images we couldn’t have taken on our own. One of the best Photo Guides in European cities My husband is an avid hobby photographer with serious DSLR equipment and I am a purely hobby photographer with an iPhone! Both of us travel the world in search of photographic memories and our teen son comes along everywhere. We did two different walking tours with Miguel on our June trip to Lisboa. He is one of the BEST photographic guides that we have worked with in any of the European cities.

He has a great eye for the best locations, adjusts on the fly based on picking up your interests and also adjusts as needed based on your complete itinerary in Lisboa. We did an early morning tour with him one day and he took us to some of the best locations and some very hidden spots too that we would not have discovered on our own. Next day, when we had booked an evening tour with him, he instead encouraged us to come to Cacilhas with him since we now knew our way around Lisboa and that would be unique. And it truly was!!

He is also a truly gifted street and portrait photographer himself so it was super cool to pick up tips & tricks from him. One can always grow by learning from fellow photographers, and he definitely added to our skills!! Would happily spend time with him again in Lisboa.

Cacilhas photo tour I decided to do the discover Cacilhas tour as I really enjoyed the Discover Lisbon private tour with Miguel. This was an area I wouldn't have thought about going to on my own. Miguel is very knowledgeable & I learned a lot about the local area. I really enjoyed walking around the market, and along the banks of the Tagus river. Great area for photos.

Great photowalk it was an early start for the sunrise tour. The streets were quite empty, so we got some great shots. I got lucky as I ended up being the only person attending the experience, so it was a 1 on 1 personalised lesson from Miguel. The experience even ended up being a bit longer -- 3 hours and 30 minutes and I learned a lot from just a short time. Miguel was open to whatever I wanted to learn instead of following a specific format, so he showed me some techniques for night photos, shooting Lisbon's famous trams, capturing people, lighting composition. I have a pretty technical camera which I don't even know all the in's and out's of and he spent some time trying to help me figure that out. The experience was even better than I expected. Since the pandemic started, I lost my excitement to take photos and I have to say I am inspired again :) Thank you, Miguel!

We went to a real nice location and Miguel gave us pointers about where to take pictures and how to set up pictures. Overall a good experience and we learned new things.

Miguel is a great teacher and knows great spots for unique and beautiful photo opportunities. He is quick to reply via email and easy to work with. He is laid back which makes this experience even better. While I took a number of photos that I really like, the best part was learning various tips and tricks about composition and night photography. I also felt like he genuinely cared about what I wanted and what I was hoping to accomplish. I highly recommend this experience. (nb: I did this as a private session with a Canon EOS 80D and one zoom lens.). To get the best out of this experience be sure to know your camera settings well and enjoy learning from an expert photographer who is a local.

My evening with Miguel defies the standard descriptions of "much better than expected" in that it was much different than I expected (in a good way). My expectation was an evening photographing set Lisbon landmarks, but instead spent the evening capturing the nightlife and unexpected streetscapes in ways I have never tried before. As a professional photographer, Miguel is very knowledgable and helpful with camera set-up and he was patient with my fumbling in unexplored parts of my camera. He was also very helpful with finding interesting camera angles and perspectives.

The photos I took with Miguel are not like any I have taken before, but I like them a lot. An evening with Miguel looking at Lisbon through the lens of a camera will provide much more insight about this city than you are likely to obtain through any standard tour.

I enjoyed the walk with Miguel quite a lot, regret leaving it for my last day as I would like to do it again even the day after to keep up with what I learned, and it was a lot, Miguel is very experienced with photography has a very good eye and perspective so he has picked some really cool places to shoot were he would give some tips on what and where but the best was when he was showing what he would have done, which was very helpful in terms of a balanced and interesting photo, from positioning or composing the image to even smaller but important details, to even capturing some local street life. Miguel Angelo is an expert photographer that will bring you his knowledge and skills to improve your way of looking at things through your lens. As a local he will bring you to less touristic spots and show you how to pay attention to details and how to better compose your shots. I felt too shy but he insisted and finally I went to ask her. She was lovely, was happy to be photographed, told us that she was a bit famous because people always see her at her window and told us some more funny stories about her life. And I got the wonderful photo I so much wanted :)))

I can fully recommend this tour to anyone who is keen to experience the city through his/her lens and to learn from someone who really knows what he's talking about and is super friendly. If solo or as a group, I believe you'll have a really good time with Miguel as your guide.

My tour with Miguel was really great. He showed me around the city, shared some very pedagogic photography tips and skills while taking me to the best spots in town. During our walk, he shared interesting stories and history of the city. We had a great Bifana and coffee to conclude our walk which I highly recommend!

It was great to go around Lisbon shooting photos with Miguel. He knows well the city and is a great photographer. He shared some nice tricks with us . I got great shots of tramways, Christmas ligths and hidden corners of the city, both with my camera and with the phone. I would highly recommend.

A perfect tour by Miguel, and not only for amateurs of photography We thoroughly enjoyed the private tour by Miguel, from A to Z. Not only the tour included multiple photo-ops, covered exciting parts of the city, and led us to both hidden and famous parts of the old Lisbon, including several "miradouros" (observation points), but Miguel took us to more than authentic places, far from beaten tourist paths (such as a small, hole-in-wall joint Os Amigos da Severa, that has been selling shots of ginjinha to the local residents of Mouraria for the last 40 years or so) and showed to us the most advantageous points from where best panoramic images could be obtained or street corners where suddenly appearing tramways/street cars could be caught in movement.
That, coupled with Miguel's amiable personality, his extensive knowledge of Lisbon, the ease of narration, and the fact that he is a fully accomplished creative master of auteur photography would most assuredly make your time and money well spent.

Having a decent camera, tripod, and all other accoutrements of professionals or just photography aficionados is a plus but you don't really have to. Even with our Galaxy 9 we were able to capture a few interesting images.

The photography skills were really quite basic and, as a beginner, I didn't actually learn anything new. It was a great tour to see Alfama with likeminded people, but thought I would learn more.

Over the years I have been on several of these types of experiences and Miguel was the first to put the customer first. He had both the technical expertise and an artistic eye and was able to make suggestions in both areas that helped my pictures for the remainder of my vacation. On these types of classes I always think if you can take away one or two tips from the experience that will allow you to improve all of your photographs it is worthwhile. Miguel far exceeded that expectation and I have the pictures to prove it. This is not a fast paced class and at first I was a little frustrated but in hindsight it was a great way to teach the class. I highly recommend Miguel for this type of class..

Perfect way to start a day and visiting Lisbon We took the early morning walk when the city was still empty of people and had an amazing light. Everything was perfect! This was an excellent experience! We got out very early which gave us a great light at the beginning, but also gave us the opportunity to see the city slowly waking up from the start of the festivities the day before. It was a truly unique feeling.
Aside from the chosen moment to walk through Lisbon (and hearing about the city itself!), Miguel shared very useful photography tips and his favorite spots for taking pictures. He would actively look at my photos and give me recommendations to shoot it again - "make sure you explore the subject".

Het is een geweldige wandeling door een wijk waar je als toerist niet zo snel komt. Miguel laat de schoonheid zien van veel dingen. Geeft geweldige tips over hoe je mooie foto's kunt maken, invalshoeken, licht. Hij heeft ons ook vooral zelf laten proberen en gaf daarna aan wat er anders zou kunnen. Hij is heel erg vriendelijk. Wij hadden daarbij een geweldig leuke groep. Wij hebben enorm genoten van de wandeling.

Time went by in an instant, and I ll keep wonderful memories of my Lisboa trip both in terms of photos, of course, but in knowing a great habitant of the city ! I really enjoyed my afternoon with Miguel. I had an issue with my knee and he went out of his way to accommodate me which I really appreciated. Regarding the time we spent, I really enjoyed seeing some spots in the city that I might not otherwise have found. Very informative I am a beginner aspiring photographer, and I took this tour to get better. My guide, Miguel, is a professional photographer and he gave me very good advice and we got some very good shots. He was very patient and asked what I was interested in shooting. He doesn't have a set agenda, and is open to whatever you want to focus on. We just moved around from higher ground and stopped wherever there might be a good shot. Miguel’s photo walk was very good and interesting. He helped me to improve my photo skills and took the time to show me parts of the city that I would not have seen otherwise. We had a wonderful experience with Miguel. Because of the season and mid-week there were only two of us, but I think that the tour would be fine with his maximum of six people. Miguel is a true professional who is able to explain photography in basic terms, adjusting for what we already understood. We walked at a slow pace around interesting areas of the city, climbing the hills and stairs as necessary, but not too strenuous. When we saw shots we wanted to take he provided tips that made the photo better. He also took us to good places to take iconic photos of Lisbon (such as the tram cars and the castle and bridge). I highly recommend this tour to people who want to improve their photography or just take some great photos.

First and foremost, Miguel is a photographer with an excellent eye, and I learned quite a few tips (admittedly, I'm an amateur!). He was a real professional, and took his time sharing his knowledge with us. He made a point of not rushing anyone in the group (our experience was closer to four hours), and he sincerely wanted everyone to enjoy the activity.

Miguel is an excellent photographer and a very laid back, if you need help with Your photography skills ,like how to frame a shoot or how to better the use of your camera or phone he will be very helpful. In my case he helped me edit on my phone a very complex sunset photo and it turned out great with his advise.
Now, for the tour itself: We walk around one of the oldest parts of Lisbon, Moreiria and Alfama. Moreriria is a lovely area where a great deal of Portugués immigrants live, so its not so touristy and you have all of these streets and alleys, for you to explore and take great pictures. Alfama is a very touristy area but lovely as well and with incredible views at. Sunset.
You will enjoy the tour it is a nice pace so that you don’t feel tired by going up all the way and climbing steps etc.
Luis was excellent that our group bonded so well that we had some drinks with Luis.I highly recommend his tour.

Miguel is a great guide. The route took us through Alfama, a very old and now gentrifying neighborhood that was a great combination of colorful buildings, street art and sweeping vistas. There was shooting advice if you wanted it, which was great. Miguel is very knowledgeable about Lisbon and Portugal. I did the tour on my first day and got so much more out of my trip than I would have otherwise. I was in a group of 4, who were all great company.

Had a fantastic time with Manuel. Learned a lot and saw a side of the city I wouldn’t have without his guidance. A very friendly, mellow vibe instead of the typical tourist march. Highly recommend!

This photo tour with Miguel is a great way to spend some of your time in Lisbon. You will be brought through neighborhoods and hidden spots that are great for shooting, but more than that is you get on the spot review and suggestions to improve your shot, as well as information on the area and the locals that inhabit it. I went on the photo tour with a friend, and it was just the two of us for the walk, which was great. Miguel was friendly and very accommodating to what our needs were, and the views of the churches and trams at the top of the hill were amazing!

Miguel met us promptly at the convenient spot. My husband and I were the only ones on the tour. He personalized the experience to our ability level. It was a fantastic 3 plus hour walk at a comfortable pace for taking photos. He gave us tips on composing a great photo, looked at our results and gave positive, yet helpful feedback. The photo shoot with Miguel was the best part of our stay in Lissabon. Miguel is very friendly and a professional Photographer. In a short time he showed us three very interesting parts of Lissabon and brought us to places that otherwise we wouldn't have seen. Because you make pictures you see things more intense and better than in a normal guided tour. And of course we learned a lot from the expert view of Miguel on composition and technical things. This was truly an incredible experience. Miguel is an amazing and passionate photographer who's just keen on sharing his knowledge. First tip - do this experience at the BEGINNING of your stay in Lisbon! We saw so many lovely local shops, cafes, and points of interest as we made our way up to Lisbon’s highest point (you know, non-touristy places). I would have loved to have known about all of those spots ahead of time (as this was a tour and we wanted to reach our destination by sunset, we didn’t have time to stop and those places close at dark). And we did this experience the day before we left, so I couldn’t go back.
Second tip - wear comfortable shoes! I had on converse sneakers but probably needed something with more cushion and traction (the sidewalks and roads are slick in some spots - even if not wet). Be ready for some serious walking, stairs and hills too. Don’t worry though, Miguel goes at a nice, relaxing pace so it’s not hard.
Third tip- do it!! You will get some of the best photos of beautiful Lisbon, have a great conversation with Miguel (he is so easy to talk to and be with), see wonderful places, people and things you would never know existed, and just enjoy the walk. I felt like I really experienced part of Lisbon.
Miguel is just wonderful and he does exactly what is described- he helps you frame the perfect picture (even if your 13 yr old wants to stop and take a photo of a stray cat)! He is incredibly patient too.
Do the experience. Hopefully there will be new people to meet in the group as well. We met Gary who was just delightful!

Het was een bijzonder leuke ervaring om op deze manier Lissabon te verkennen en tegelijk te fotograferen. Miguel is rustig, heeft verstand van fotografie en geeft handige tips hoe de foto beter kan. Wat ik fijn vond is dat hij de tijd nam voor de wandeling. Het leek alsof hij de tijd was vergeten. Ruim drie uren hebben we door Lissabon gewandeld. We waren maar met twee deelnemers, zodat het haast een privéwandeling was. Het voordeel was dat we zelf konden aangeven waar we wilden wandelen/fotograferen. Ik heb een erg leuke middag/avond gehad. Zeker een aanbeveling voor wie van wandelen en fotograferen houdt.

We told Miguel we would like to go to Amalfa to see the local life, it was no problem for Miguel. He showed us typical places in that very special neighbourhood. I learnt so much about day photography in the short span of time I spent with him than I had by myself in the last 5 years. Learning to take control of your camera was his mantra. And what a huge difference it made to the photos I took. He is a fantastic teacher, showed me some brilliant spots around town which I would not have discovered on my own and imparted deep knowledge in shooting techniques which is only going to improve my shooting skills. I whole heartedly recommend him.

Great walk! Miguel was very knowledgeable and helpful for us. He taught us something’s we never knew about photography and the scenery was beautiful! We saw a different side of Lisbon. Not too touristy and was a great walk! Loved all the sightseeing and got some really great photos!

Miguel had a tough challenge with us because we had already been through the Alfama district. He had to adjust the tour. This is a tour for people who are fit, who wear good shoes, and can walk for a long time up and down many steps. What I enjoyed the most was talking about culture history and politics. We did visit lovely spots and this was a nice way to learn more about Portugal. What I enjoyed the most was the opportunity to ask questions of Miguel about life here. I am not a photography buff but it was still good. Thank you Miguel for the time we spent together.

We enjoyed walking around parts of Lisbon with Miguel. We met him in an area of the city with beautiful tiled buildings which we would not otherwise have seen. He had to improvise on the fly because we had already spent a day in an area he had planned to walk through with us namely Alfama. We saw some lovely vantage points. He was very helpful in showing us how to improve our picture taking. What I enjoyed the most was talking with him about political and cultural aspects of life in Lisbon and in Portugal. This is a fairly strenuous outing and comfortable shoes and good legs are a must. There's many stairs to go up and down, likewise hills

Miguel is the perfect host with whom to discover Lisbon . He is knowledgeable about the city and is himself an accomplished photographer. We saw little streets and alleys that we would not have otherwise discovered and also some stunning views of the city. Miguel is a relaxed and friendly person, always willing to share advice on camera settings and choice of angles for shots. I should add that the time we went for our walk was 4-7pm, when the sun was still strong, but Miguel is happy to arrange early morning or later evening walks for those interested in seeing the city in (literally) better light. I will sign up for another walk, this time early in the morning. This is a great way to start a trip, highly recommended.

Our tour with Miguel was one of the highlights of our stay in Lisbon. Not only did he give us some great tips on photography but we got to experience what Lisbon is like outside the tourist areas. He showed us a bit of the culture of the local residents and told us about some great Portuguese restaurants.

We took Miguel’s tour as I was keen to remind myself of what taking great photographs is all about. I’d got into a rut of using auto setting & whilst not bad at composition knew my results weren’t always great. So it was ideal to have this experience in a city with a lot to shoot. We were only 4 on the trip so perfect to get Miguel’s time as we roamed the back streets of Lisbon, and streets and vistas you’d never naturally go to as a tourist. I was reminded of using aperture control & framing shots, using people & objects to add interest. The route we took wound up & down graffiti alleys & took in great views for photographing. We stopped for a quick beer in a small park overlooking the city & later in a very tiny local bar we had a cheeky Ginjinha! Portugal were playing in the World Cup so the streets were very quiet much to our advantage! Great experience & a big thank you to Miguel for hosting & sharing his love of Lisbon.

Being taken to the real heart of Lisbon was absolutely amazing but being guided by someone with so much knowledge of the areas and photography was just exceptional. Miguel is very patient and is happy to give time even to beginners. He really offers an experience not to be missed. Thank you Miguel.

Outstanding. He tours the best parts of Lisbon neighborhoods. Places you would never see on your own. Very knowledgeable about photography and Lisbon. We had a 6 person group and he made it a point to talk to everyone individually, gauging their interest and knowledge and offering many individual tips geared to the interest and expertise of the individual. Patient and enthusiastic. It’s a good deal of walking so wear comfortable shoes. I came away with some great shots and great memories. Skip the tour book highlights. Do this. You won’t regret it.

Miguel is a very good person who would be a friend. He showed us some very interesting places, but it is not really for professional photograph. Wished he would organize a group more professional.

Super great time with Miguel! We walked around Lisbon through less known places. It’s not necessary to have a good camera, we were 3 friends only with smartphones. Miguel gave us a lot of advices to improve our pictures. It’s a good idea to have this experience at the beginning of the trip! We really enjoyed it!

Miguel was an amazing guide and ambassador for Portugal! He not only helped me identify potentially great photographic images, he also gave some background to the area and history of Portugal! I had a great time exploring Lisbon with Miguel! This was exactly what I was looking for, walking the streets and taking it all in. He was a fantastic guide and helped with photos even from my iPhone!

Miguel led a great tour off the normal tourist path, but still stopping at great viewpoints and pointing out different aspects of the city. The photography is what you want to make of it - more direction if you ask, or let free to do your own thing if not.

I have knowledge of photography and wanted to roam the city with like minded people. This was a great opportunity to walk many locations off the normal path.

Miguel is an extremely friendly, patient, accommodating and knowledgeable guide. He is quite flexible on the path he takes and moulds the tour to your personal needs/wants. I was able to capture amazing shots thanks to Miguel and he even took pictures of me which I really appreciated as a solo traveller. Bring a jacket as Lisbon is a bit cold in the mornings. Overall I had a great time and this was a great addition to my stay in Lisbon.

Great experience offered by Miguel; if you like discovering a new place whilst improving your photographic skills, don't look further, this tour is for you. Miguel takes you off-the beaten track to show you the best spots of a very scenic part of Lisbon (Mouraria and Alfama) and picture opportunities will be legion! It was really a great experience :) Even though I was the only one the lesson took place and it lasted even longer! Miguel explained me a lot of staff about photography, giving me bunch of tips. The Photo walk with Miguel was very nice and perfectly adopted to my needs. He took time to explain and support me for taking better pictures and showing me some of the best spots and viewpoints, which I wouldn’t have found on my own.
It is an experience where you will learn
to better work with the light and see new angles and get new ideas from where your are taken. Your pictures will gain on quality. He was adopting to my speed and my wishes. I am not a photographer but my daughter is which is why we signed up for the tour. I enjoyed listening to Miguel advise my daughter on improving her technique. It has helped me to compose better pictures. He also gave me a few useful tips for my cell phone camera that I have been trying. The photo walk with Miguel was wonderful. The walk was filled with gorgeous vistas and winding streets. Miguel also taught me more about photography and my camera as we sought out the perfect shot. This was a perfect way to spend my first day in Lisbon, experiencing the city on foot with a local photographer who knows the best places to photograph. Miguel was a wonderful host, showing us the best angles for photographs, and going at a pace that suited everyone in the group, as well as being able to help with equipment if needed. I have photographs I am sure I would never have “found” without Miguel. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as Lisbon is very hilly! This is a great way to experience the city.

Thoroughly enjoyed my tour with Miguel. It was a great way the spend the afternoon/evening, with plenty of opportunities to shoot architecture, street art and Lisbon city life.

Two for one deal What a great way to start our vacation in Portugal. This photography tour was very informative. My family and I learned a lot about the city of Lisbon and picked up some helpful tips about photography that improved how we took pictures so it was a great way to start our trip. Great experience for the serious Photographer My photo tour was set by my travel agent. Miguel was on time at my hotel. I had an immediate feeling of like,respect, and confidence in him. He is a highly knowledgeable photographer but a gentleman as well. He was helpful with settings and composition and locations but mostly shared his passion. He is very familiar with the hidden spots in Lisbon as well as beyond the confines of Lisbon. He was very free with his knowledge and recommendations. I would share more time with Miguel next time I am in Lisbon.
