The Mouraria Photo Walk Pictures by the Youngest Boy in the Group

The Mouraria Photo Walk Pictures

Last Sunday, we went to the Mouraria neighborhood on a Photography Tour. Those are the pictures taken by the 11 years old Lourenço Silva using his iPhone 5s.
I would say, sometimes less is more. Enjoy! Great photography Lourenço!!

We were a small group of about 6 photography lovers, and everybody had a blast and ended up with great images.

Mouraria is one of Lisbon’s most unique and oldest neighborhoods. It has its name after the Moors who ruled Lisbon and most of the Iberian Peninsula for almost 4 centuries up to the 12th century.

In 1147 when Dom Afonso Henrique, King of the newly formed Kingdom of Portugal, conquered Lisbon to the Moors, allowed some of them to stay and live in Lisbon, but related them to this area in the northwest of the castle now known as Mouraria.

Mouraria is also known as the birthplace of Fado, through the voice of Severa and followed by many other famous Fadistas who were born and lived in the neighborhood.

Since its formation, Mouraria has been a constant point of settlement for many immigrants, which is clearly still very easy to witness today, as it’s definitely one of Lisbon’s most ethnically diverse areas.

Photowalks.pt visits Mouraria with the photography tour Discover Lisbon with a Photographer – Afternoon Edition or at night with the Lisbon Night Photography Walking Tour.
